How we set the Membership Fees

Our membership year runs from 1st September to 31st August. Membership fees for the forthcoming membership year are proposed by the Committee two to three months before the start of the membership year. Members then have the opportunity to vote as to whether they approve the committee’s proposals. This vote takes place at a monthly meeting, or, if the Committee proposes a significant change, at a specially convened meeting open to all members.

Special General Meeting on Membership Fees for 2026-2027
On Friday 10^th July 2026 a meeting was held to consider an increase of £1 to the Annual Membership fee for 2026-2027, taking it from £14 to £15 per annum. Papers were sent to all members prior to the meeting on the Membership Fee Proposals for 2026-27. This proposal was agreed at the meeting and Minutes of the Result of the Meeting has been sent to all members by email.

Members for whom Crawley u3a is their principle u3a are known as Full Members, and pay £15.00 for a year's membership.  If there is more than one person sharing the same address, each Full Member will pay £15.00. The £15.00 is inclusive of the £4.00 cost Crawley u3a is charged by the Third Age Trust.

Associate Members, for whom their principle u3a is not Crawley, are only charged £11.00 each to join Crawley u3a as their main u3a pays the £4.00 to the Third Age Trust.

New Members joining in the period from 1st March 2027 - 31st July 2027 will be charged 50% of the membership fee i.e. £7.50 for Full Members and £5.50 for Associate Members. 

Subscription cost for u3a matters magazine for 2026-2027

u3a matters is the membership magazine of the u3a movement, and is published 5 times a year and is sent to you by post. The cost of this is separate to your Membership Fee, and is £4.50 per annum for 2026-2027.  If you wish to subscribe, an Individual Member will in total pay £15.00 (membership fee) + £4.50 (magazine fee) = £19.50 for 2026-2027.

Associate Members can order the u3a matters magazine through their main u3a if they wish to subscribe.

New Members joining in 2026-2027 receive u3a matters magazine free of charge for their first year of membership. 

Annual Membership Renewal 2026-2027

All members needing to renew their membership for 2026-2027 will be sent an email in mid-August outlining the process for 2026-2027.

Gift Aid

Did you know that if you are a UK taxpayer you can Gift Aid Crawley u3a membership? The Gift Aid scheme means Crawley u3a can reclaim 25p of tax for each £1 you give to help make the u3a funds go further when providing its activities. Making a gift aid donation does not cost the donor any extra money but you must be a UK taxpayer for each year for which you Gift Aid. For more information on Gift Aid, please click here.

Group Fees

Please note that any fees relating to participating in one of our Interest groups are paid separately and the amount will be advised by the relevant Group Leader as the fees are due. All cheques should be made payable to Crawley u3a with your membership number and group activity written on the reverse.
